Excuse me...I misunderstood, or WTF is this text? You have not time to consider the effect which your discoveries or inventions may have outside the field of medicine. You succeed (let us say), as modern medicine has succeeded, in enormously lowering the infant death-rate, not only in Europe and America, but also in Asia and Africa. This has the entirely unintended result of making the food supply inadequate and lowering the standard of life in the most populous parts of the world. -- Bertrand Russell Integrated English BookIII
I don't know the Asian and African had enough to eat and the higher standard of life before the modern medicine. So to keep the food supply adequate we should never build modern hospitals and just let the mothers and babies die? Or I misinterpreted Bertrand Russell's delicate language. Like:
Even an end which it would be noble to pursue if it were attainable may be pursued unwisely if it is inherently impossible of achievement. I miss those good old fan fics.

Trifles
So Taro called and said they had lights fixed in the apartment. Good. Other than that...I work. Day in and day out. Eat, sleep, plus 3hours in the bus everyday. Life is getting sort of boring so maybe it's time to get married, and move from boring stage one to boring stage two. Aaaaa damn it I feel tired...and hungry, and I don't want to cook. No McDonald 517-517junk-food-that-I-like deliver service since I TRIED to squezz myself into some sort of oh-so-lovely-korean-style wedding dress. |

from the textbook, very confusing It is this increased sensuality and the desire for great freedom from age-bound habits in the West, combined with the inherent sensual concept of Chinese food, always quick to satisfy the taste buds, that is at the root of the sudden and phenomenal spread of Chinese food throughout the length and breadth of the Western World.”
What is the writer trying to say, anyway? @__@
First, it is an article written in 1980s about Chinese food, which is largely different from what we have now. Second, the language is so very, very confusing. Third, I have to use this article in my class. Good syllabus.
Conclusion: I like my job.
-------etc------
8 day super National Holiday is over. I attended several weddings, each was long enough to be--I mean they worked so hard on it-- boring. Me and Taro also worked on our apartment. Thank heaven and earth that his dad know a lot about interior decoration and he's very willing to help us. It's a small apartment but still requires hugh work. Than we are going to discuss our wedding next year.
8 days are not even enough to sleep well. I'm much looking forward to the winter vacation = ,=

Language/ Usage of "too"
Mark, you shouldn't have been too neglectful and thoughtless about drugs. I don't know if it is written by a Chinese editor. The sentence is from a test paper. Is it right to use "too" here? Or is it better with "so"? I remember "You can't be too careful" means "you must be careful", right? |

New term, new kids
New kids, with their dads and moms and brothers and sisters and lovers sitting next to them, becoming freshmen in this college. Kids are...so precious nowadays. They are taken very good care of. Not like when I was a freshmen 9 years ago. I paid the room and board and tuition fee and was told tomorrow the military trainning would began, and I spent 6 weeks in the countryside with a nasty sun burn. No lovely office assistant was answering any questions. There were just orders from a fat guy whom I didn't like in the next 4 years. I guess I AM jealous. I almost see the kids as "spoiled". They always have someone in the office to talk to when they have troubles. In today's welcome party the dean reminds the parents that they need to keep on supporting their kids. Not always financially. Emotionally. And I was appointed as some sort of assistant this year, to provide help to the rookies in academic studies. Do I look like a kind big sister? Director: What are you going to say if you find your student suicidal? Say, trying to throw himself from the top of the building. Me: *in my mind* A This is not in my job description B I should bar all the windows C tell him to check if there's anyone passing by D persuade him to donate his liver--Okay better not to jump and smash it Me:*answer* I shall sit by the window and tell him if he doesn't change his mind I'll jump. Director: Mmmm GOOD choice. Me: *in my mind* And I'll tell him I'll strangle him in his wrost nightmare as a ghost. I don't think they will give me any training due to the lack of fund:P Current Mood: amused |

baby lusty
My friend gave birth to a baby girl so I bought her a little gift: blanket in giftbox. With the brand Baby Lusty.
I'm sure the translator is NOT good at English. He/she looked into a random Chinese-English dictionary for the English expression of "healthy and energetic" and lusty is the word he/she found. I swear I mistook the name for Baby Lucky. And my friend is teaching English. Yeah! Current Mood: crappy |

TOFEL writing, is it good English? TOFEL is a language test, a necessity for foreign students to study in the US and many English speaking countries. Thus many students would kill for the test. Yet I found that after they got trained for TOFEL writing, they tended to use super long sentences and big words. Here's a sample writing said to obtain high marks in the test. Is it good English?
Question: Which one do you prefer, to solve problems on your own experience and knowledge, or to ask others for advice?

funni-er
Google dot cn is sending "low" messages, according to dear cctv. Thus google has been warned. Seems that the information center are going rather conservative these days, not in a good way. But what about Baidu? 1 million times more stupid than google and absolutely corrupted. I don't believe Baidu is free from online porn. Damn it is even not a qualified search engine. How much money did Baidu pour into cctv? But the funniest part of the news is that how-to-use-google-to-find-porn instruction. To prove that google is a bad boy, the journalists input the english word "boobs" and the "low" images show. Look, google is bad enough to introdce foreign erotic images. The point is, how many Chinese can read the word "boobs" ? Who's sending "low" messages, anyway? It's funny. Seems the guys in the information center are really high in moral. They are burning witches to protect out precious innocence. I check it today, and find, yeah, google is functioning. Only the "boobs" are more concerned with breast cancer. And I was thinking what if the medical postgraduates write "boobs" in their doctoral research XDD BTW SONS AND LOVERS IS LITERATURE YOU STUPID JOURNALIST ! ------------------------------ Okay okay I was wrong. The latest rumor is that cctv is bond to change. From serious to not so serious. That's why they are trying all these? Current Mood: amused |
